Reimagining “Main” Street
West Orange needs bold, new vision. We must work with nonprofits, local businesses, and government partners to build a downtown that is people focused and is safe, clean, green, walkable, accessible. If elected to The Township Council, I’ll do my part to increase transparency, community involvement, and will work to support commercial ratables, protect and plant green space, all of which strengthen the bonds of community. I am committed to supporting investment in smart infrastructure, and creating a vi8brant downtown. The following are key issues to reimagining our Main Street:
- Utilizing the West Orange Jitney to provide accessible public transportation throughout Town. Ensuring reliable access to Main Street will increase foot traffic.
- Invest in downtown green space. Increasing green space will counter the urban heat island effect, help mitigate flooding, and create a welcoming environment. More trees Downtown.
- Focus on mixed use spaces so we can encourage access and walkability, meet our affordable housing requirements, and prioritize “local resident” and “people” centered planning.
- Ensuring the Town Council utilizes its power under § 2-61.7 West Orange Complete and Green Streets Policy. [Added 2-25-2025 by Ord. No. 2891-25].
- Amending the pedestrian safety committee and allow the president to be elected by the committee.
- Ensure representatives from the Pedestrian Safety Advisory Board, and Vision Zero Task Force are represented on the Planning Board and Zoning Board by working with my colleagues and the Mayor to update appropriate Ordinances.
